Spreading the Sunshine
We have many different ways to make a difference. Your donation is a way to be a part of our efforts.
MadHats, Pillowcases, and other handmade items

In the Family Room and sometimes at the nurses' station you can find handmade items that children love. Wearing MadHats, toboggans, may help reduce the anxiety associated with the loss of hair due to chemotherapy and help maintain warmth.
Other handmade items that are appreciated are scarves and shawls which are great to have while hospitalized or traveling to and from the clinic.
For those crafty individuals who love to sew, pillow cases are a fantastic way to add color, personality, and joy to a hospital room. Many children enjoy donated pillow cases that are seasonal, character themed, sports related, and older adolescent prints for our teens.

Christmas Wishes & Holiday's

Christmas time should be spent participating in family traditions and enjoying each other.
It is not uncommon for children with cancer to be in the hospital on Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, and even your birthday.
Madison spent all of these holidays at the hospital. Christmas morning there at the hospital will never be forgotten and many people made a special effort to make it wonderful. Our experience sparked the idea for creating Christmas Wishes and other holiday themed donations which is now part of our organizations tradition.
Each childhood cancer patient hospitalized on Christmas and other holidays will receive a gift! Parents will not have to worry about preparing for the holiday and often feel comfort knowing their child will have something special.
New toys and activities are always welcome throughout the year.

Comfortable Kitchen

There is a special place called the Family Room where families with similar worries can talk and support each other. It is a place to gather with friends and family, make and share meals, have internet/computer access, pick out a movie, watch TV, and even wash a load of laundry.
The kitchen is a frequently used part of the family room that is shared by 34 potential in patient families. It is in this kitchen that caregivers are able to prepare their child’s favorite meal. The kitchen is equipped with a stove, refrigerator, microwave, and sink. It is stocked with things like ice, water, coffee, plates, cups, eating utensils, sugar, and creamer but many items are still needed to help create a friendly cooking atmosphere.
The Madison Childhood Cancer Foundation provides on an as needed basis items such as pots, pans, cooking utensils, can openers, bowls, SOS pads and dish washing liquid. Scent free laundry detergent is also donated and available for patient families upon request.

Movie Madness
Watching movies while you’re stuck in the hospital is a perfect way to get your mind off troubling things such as chemo, surgery, pain, and other hospital procedures. DVD's are given to patients to take home as a gift and many times they are donated to the Egleston Family Library where inpatients can check out them out for free.
If you have slightly used DVD's take them off the shelf and send them to the foundation or purchase one to donate. This is a children’s hospital, no rated R movies can be accepted.
